The Foundation was established in 1958 as a non-profit corporation under the laws of the State of Washington. To begin with, one graduate fellowship a year in the amount of $1800 was made available to a qualified applicant working toward a Masters Degree in the School of Government at George Washington University in Washington, D.C. The first recipient, Dr. Phillip Grub, was a speaker at the May, 2002 board meeting.  In 1968, $500 undergraduate scholarships were established for entering Juniors, Seniors and 5th year Seniors attending any accredited 4 year Washington State College or University as a full time student. The GWU graduate fellowship was also continued.

Over the years, the scholarships and fellowships have grown - thanks to the generosity of Scottish Rite Masons through endowments, individual contributions and the excellent management of funds.
