Other Opportunities:
Dependent on funds available, the Scoring Committee
prepares a recommendation to the Board of Directors on
how many awards can be issued for the upcoming academic
year. This is presented at the Board meeting which is
usually held the third week of May. Once approved by the
Board, all applicants are notified of the outcome.
Please be assured that the database that is developed
with applicant names and information is kept strictly
confidential. Using queries, reports are given to each
Valley showing how their applicants finished in the
scoring and whether or not they received an award. A
summary report is given to the Officers that shows total
number of applicants, number of awards - broken down
into undergraduate, graduate, renewals - and how the
money allocated was disbursed. Probably the most
important report is given to the Treasurer. He uses his
report information to determine how much to send to each
school with a list of who received an award (lists name
and Student ID only) so your financial aid account is
credited correctly. |

It may be of interest to some how the Scottish Rite
Scholarship Foundation of Washington works. Well......
In late summer or fall of each year updated materials
such as brochures, application disks and other materials
are distributed to the Directors and Assistant Directors
in each Valley. These men start getting the word out and
can start accepting completed applications in November
for awards to be granted the following spring. Those
interested in applying, have a short interview with the
Director or Assistant Director to learn what the
eligibility requirements are (these are spelled out on
the UnderGrad and Fellowship pages), and given
instruction on completing the application so all i's are
dotted and t's are crossed. Completed applications are
due back to the Director or Assistant Director by March
31.
Once the completed applications are received by the
Director or Assistant Director, they are reviewed to be
sure everything is complete then forwarded to the
Chairman of the Scholarship Committee so the information
may be entered into the database. All applications are
then taken to the Scoring Committee which meets right
around the middle of April. The Scoring Committee goes
through each application carefully and scores them then
ranks them in order from the highest to the lowest
score. |
